MATT Assistant Secretary Clayton Clarke assists in packaging masks for Tobago journalists.

The Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago began distributing an allotment of masks donated to the journalist community of this country to practitioners on December 28.  The association organised packages in response to requests received by media houses and media workers since the announcement of the receipt of the donation by SEWA TT.

The distribution of masks to date total 3,165 and have been sent to more than 250 journalists, both those employed by media houses and those who freelance for them. While we have logged all requests by name or media house, this accounting will only list distributions by broad aggregate and will be updated while the distribution process is in progress.

At this time, 3,960 of the masks sent by SEWA TT have been allocated and we encourage members of MATT as well as other working journalists to make their requests  for masks as quickly as possible. The association remains concerned about Covid-19 transmission, particularly the highly infectious Omicron variant and encourage practitioners to use the best possible protective wear available during this time.

Updated December 30, 2021 to note additional distributions as of this update, there are eight packages of five left for distribution. Journalists are asked to make their requests soon.
