Main speaker: Justice Kathy Ann Waterman-Latchoo LLB, LEC, MSc. High Court, Trinidad and Tobago author of Newsroom Law: A Legal Guide for Commonwealth Caribbean Journalists

Topic: Defamation, Slander and Libel. MATT brief on the Sexual Offences (Amendment) (No. 3) Bill, 2021 and MATTs submission to Parliament.

The Speaker: Justice Latchoo, a former award winning journalist and editor who was called to the Bar in 1998 in Trinidad and Tobago. Three years later she became a prosecutor, rising to the rank of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.

She retired from that post in 2014 to become a judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, where she served in St Vincent and the Grenadines as Judge for the Criminal Bench.

In June 2017, she returned home to Trinidad and Tobago to serve as a High Court Judge in the Criminal Division. She helped compile the UN Women training curriculum on more effective prosecution of sexual offences and has trained prosecutors and police officers.

Justice Latchoo is a former journalist and editor who worked for the Trinidad Express and was named Journalist of the Year in the annual media awards.
