The term of office of the current MATT executive has effectively come to a close.
During our time as an executive, we have been unable to access the primary MATT bank account and have established only limited access to the MATT Unit Trust account because of changes in the fidicuary responsibilities of associations.
While the previous executive promptly made handing-over-of-account responsibilities letters available, these are no longer adequate for opening the First Citizens’ account
To do so, MATT must be established as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
That process has been underway for a year and while we are drawing to a close on the required procedure and document submissions, the entire effort will be most seamlessly concluded if the current signatories are in place for the completion of the process.
This will enable the sitting an executive to proceed with a proper transfer of responsibilities to the new executive at the next General Meeting.
The sitting executive of MATT would like to be able to hand over an organisation with the status and tools to more effectively defend the interests of The Fourth Estate in Trinidad and Tobago.
Under laws passed in 2019, it has been made clear to us by banking officials and financial professionals that the best way to do so is as a formally registered NGO.
The proposed extension is not expected to exceed two months from the date of this notification.
To simplify the process of seeking consensus on this, we are asking that any current full member dissenting to this course of action send a message to MATT’s email address stating their objection and the reasons for it.
We will share these concerns with the membership for appropriate discussion and resolution.
