As the World continues to react to World Press Freedom day,  journalism and threats from social media , it is worthwhile to re-examine history , because not much as changed , except books,  being replaced by podcast and social media and a quick google search.

For that I refer all to Socrates , all those many years ago who said the following on technology “ …this discovery of yours will create forgetfulness in the learners’ souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust to the external written characters and not remember of themselves …they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing.”

So the warning is clear , the advancement over the years will lead to conflicted thoughts and views which may not be substantiated by fact but rather by opinion , so we may all have to live with shouting into outer space but fear the droppings from the sky.

While in many instances the digital age threatens the virtues of the Fourth estate with its distortion of realities and fed information; in 2022 press freedom is learning to live and evolve with the tecnology while guarding the principles and foundations of true Journalism in our dissemination of information.

Therefore the resultant turmoil brought about by  the increase in accessibility to all thought must be measured against the precise rules and guidelines that journalism demands of those who adhere to such ideals …consequently the threat is real and  rampant.
